Charles Bridge with Prague Castle

December, 1994

Hi

We’ve been having a great time. Prague was gorgeous. We came to Vienna today. It seems quite plain by comparison. My legs are going to be 2″ shorter with all the walking.

See you soon!

Dear

Staid in St Louis last night – that is, getting to the hotel at 1:30 am. But we feel rested. Started to Oklahoma City at seven 30 but stopped here for a bite to eat. It is a wonderful place! The weather is grand and we are OK. This place is on the edge of Ozarks and so pretty – Looks a lot like around Lodi. Only divided highway mostly. Next transfer will be Okla City. Hope you both are rested from yesterday.

Burgtor – Michaelerkirche

March, 1975

Greetings from Vienna

It is indeed a beautiful city and this morning I wandered round some of the old bits behind the Opera House and St Stephen’s Cathedral. The air is so fresh and the trees are still in their spring greenery.

I did enjoy meeting you both and having the freedom of your home. Very many thanks for your welcome and hospitality, and I don’t forget so let me know if you are to be anywhere near Aberdeen.

All good wishes to you.

This music is just great – last nite we went to a sort of calypso concert… I got me a new bathing suit and some white slacks. Dresses are really short here! Tomorrow we’re off to Madrid. Brrr.

The steel bands, like the calypso singing of Trinidad are world famous. The instruments fashioned from tops of steel drums and other discarded pieces are capable of rendering fine music under the skillful fingers of local players.

Sawatdee!

Having a marvelous time in Thailand. My friend has been here several times and makes an excellent guide. Toured temples today and an elephant ride. Will go to the Burmese border tomorrow and think of you.

Glacier, Montana

We are canoeing on Lake Swiftcurrent today which is only a .2 mile portage away from Lake Josephine. Others were on horses seeing another lake. The weather is not great – mucho rain and there is still lots of snow in the park in some of the campsites! But the scenery is beautiful – Real mountains. So far have seen 3 or 4 deer, chipmunks, rabbits, jays and 1 bear (from a distance!).

Love

Magnificent Mt. Gould and the Garden Wall are the backdrop for Lake Josephine. Less than one mile hike, or a short boat ride, take the visitor to the beautiful lake, one of 250 in Glacier National Park. The unique flower, Beargrass, is a member of the Lily family, and can be found in nearly all areas of the park.

Riding Mountain National Park, Canada

July, 1989

Today we are actually in Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, near the Int’l Peace Gardens on the North Dakota border where we used to come from Fargo long ago. Riding Mountain has lovely lakes and trails, but many hungry mosquitoes. We started our Canadian travels at Lake Winnipeg, just north of Winnipeg, at a wonderful sand beach with real dunes. The camp site, however, had even more mosquitoes than Riding Mountain! (so far I’ve only gotten two bites at Turtle Mountain – comparative heaven…) tomorrow we will head home.
