The Sacred Bo-Tree (ficus religiousa), Anura, Dhapura, Sri Lanka. Brought to Sri Lanka from North India in 3rd century. A sapling of parent tree beneath which the Buddha himself found enlightenment. The oldest authenticated tree in the world.

We have been in Nara for a week in a stunning Japanese style room. Asian Education Conference. Am deep in the writings of the Buddha.
The Buddha of Kamakura – built in 1252, is the largest Buddha next to the Buddha in Nara. IT is well known as a “handsome” Buddha.

Visited this temple this morning. Two jade Buddhas, this one and the other one I sent were brought from Burma. Visited the museum this afternoon. Very nice celedon and lovely bronze. Bronze 4000 years old. We leave for Xian in a short time, all well.
