This is the cat painting I gave Jean for Christmas. I think she likes it.
Ice on the canal tonight, but barely.

How about these flowers? they look almost dangerous! Yesterday Rosie and I went to the Gemente to look at the Wedgewood China collection – interesting. But we “found” another exhibit of Woody Van Amen – modern, collage type and most innovative and interesting. He is a young Dutchman who has traveled a lot – uses maps, photos, neon lites, etc!

This is rather like Van Gogh, no? A bit lighter. We took the Werdyks to the Gemente and to the Mondrians (among many others) and I am again so impressed with his middle years – the purple tree, landscape, etc. I suppose an artist who lives 90 years is bound to change styles many times. Good to talk to you yesterday. Is it cold? We are still warm but windy.

Isn’t this a nice painting? We saw the original yesterday at the K. M. Museum. It is gorgeous! Our “outing” was very nice with an all aft. dinner in an old inn – 6 courses. Today I took the ladies to Keukenhof – cold but beautiful. Jeanette Kang will spend Wednesday with me. B and I will take off on Sat on the boat trip up the Rhine, Naimegan to Basil. B needs a rest from the office. Tonight is the diner in Voorschaten for everyone. Wish you were here.

Dear Mom
We just got home from a long, lovely walk – to the sea and a lovely lunch in a nice little restaurant. The sun is out and is warm, tho chilly in the wind. We had a good night’s sleep and think we’re back on schedule! It is so good to be here with Va and Bill. The apartment is lovely! The city is so pretty with flowers everywhere.

My feet hurt from all the walking but we are having a fun time. Plan to go to Gouda for a day trip. Otherwise, just shopping, museums, and cafes on the canals. It is really hot. It was 27 degrees C when we landed yesterday and it was up there again today.

Bill went to Frankfurt this am for a meeting with Alex for a few hours. Will return tomorrow. We are having winter (50 degrees F). Five of us “trained ” to Leist (east of Utrecht) to the Stoops for dinner last Wed. in honor of Alicia’s leaving. We had such a good time – Rene Devored was along. A real Dutch eve. Tim seems to be having a nice holiday with Astra in S. Dak! Jean said she had a nice letter from you. She hasn’t been very well recently, but is working.
Hope you are okay. Love, Va

Yes, Gerard is in Europe! I am just out of hospital, usual leg problem. Haven’t heard from you for ages, did you get my b/card in April? Love from me, Dorothy
Thanks for your postcard. via the internet I stay informed about my Cubbies and Bulls. I hear there is a heat wave in the USA. As Stephanie is coming over here I have asked her to bring some of that weather with her as it hasn’t been great in Holland. I will be back in Chicago in the middle of July.
