In the very center of Philadelphia is one of the country’s most spectacular city halls. built at the end of the 19th century, it houses the mayor’s office, City Council and many of the City’s Courts.

Built on what was once a landscaped, fenced -in recreation area called Penn Square, City Hall covers more area than any municipal building in the country. It took 30 years to build and was completed in 1901. William Penn, designed by Calder, has stood on top since 1894.
