San Juan Capistrano, CA

Founded November 1, 1776. The fountain and pool in the front gardens where hundreds of beautiful snow white pigeons flock and greet the visitors often alighting on one’s shoulder, and beg to be fed from the hand.

Steamer “Dorchester”

On February 3, 1943, the Dorchester was torpedoed by a German submarine and sank. 674 of the 904 aboard were lost. This was the single worst loss of American personnel of any American convoy during World War II.
