Thomas Jefferson demonstrated appreciation for classical architecture’s timeless beauty through his designs for the University of Virginia as well as his own Montecello. His favorite example from antiquity remained the Roman Pantheon, the inspiration for John Russell Pope’s memorial design.

It is hot and humid. Not for me. Bill took me to see the Vietnam Memorial (by taxi) this AM – so impressive! The photos don’t do it justice. Had lemonade below the Pee waterfall, saw the Mondrian old favorites from Den Haag. Now back in hotel and cool.
