Dear Mother

We got here in good time yesterday – Jean said the road is much better than earlier in the day. We played about 10 games of Spite and Malice last night (Jean won mostly). Her cancer-worker from Madison was here for a “working” lunch today. We will go shopping in town this afternoon. The sun is shining and it is a beautiful, warm 40 degrees day! Hope it is there too. I so much enjoyed my visit with you and truly got rested up. Kathy called and says that she has rented an apartment – no furniture!

July 1985

It is very hot this aft. I’ve been clearing cosets but did go to church this morn. Yesterday aft. I did tarts at Shakespeare (take filling in and fill just before intermission). Haven’t done much interesting this week – but am getting some closets cleaned! The cat has been sick – the vet is not sure what’s wrong. He got better with medicine, but is sickly again today. The pictures are good! I’m so glad to have them.

A cozy group of classic lawn chairs overlook the croquet lawn and beautiful Red Cedar Lake at Stout Island Lodge. Frank Stout, A Chicago lumber baron, built his family’s island retreat at a cost of 1.5 million dollars in 1903 patterned after the “Great Camps of the Adirondacks” and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Three dozen cozy guest rooms and suites, most with wood burning fireplaces are located within the main lodge and surrounding secluded cabins.

Dear Mother – We are here, rain and all! Bill is meeting someone; I have been looking around the Square. It has changed so much – Manchesters is closed – but Mosey’s and the Emporiam are still here. I will take Bill to the airport then I’ll go back to Jean. She seems ok – looks great but is worried about the test. So good to talk to you last eve.

Hi – I’ve just watched Barney Miller (11 pm) and should be off to bed. Hope you got home ok Mon. Fernie and I came here Tuesday aft. She was very tired – has decided on the 3rd floor when a room on the front is available. Jean is coming over tomorrow – has to go into Madison so will come here and stay overnight. Bill should be getting to Frankfurt about now. Good to see you over the weekend.
