Dear Fern,

Hi!! I am doing a million things this morning – but want to say “hi” to you! Virginia and I had such a good visit with you. Virginia left yesterday for Minneapolis. It was so great to have her here — it never is long enough! I’m trying to make up all the school I missed!

World’s largest M. Platteville, Wisconsin. This large M represents the Mining Engineering School at Wisconsin State University in Platteville, Wisconsin. It can be seen for miles and is located on the hillside east of Platteville.

Hi- Arrived more or less on time with hall packed for many planes are round early am. Also it was snowing, raining, cold and windy! We had a nice time with Burnhams – all kids came for dinner in an excellent Fr. restaurant and we had a good visit.

American Birkebeiner

1990

Thousands of skiers make their way to the top of Mt Telemark at the start of the annual American Birebeiner cross country ski race. The race starts at the Telemark ski area near Cable, Wisconsin and finishes 55 kilometers down the course at Historyland in Hayward. Since its inception in February 1973, the Birkebeiner has grown into the largest and most prestigious race of its kind in North America. The race is also a member of the World Loppet League, a series of the world’s nine most famous ski marathons.

We got Alicia off, and leisurely drove down the river to here for the night. Beautiful drive and great weather. Had a good dinner in the nearby Ponderosa! Bill managed to stay in bed until almost 9 this am!! Alicia thought your movie and restaurant were great. Really enjoyed both.

We got here in good time after having a nice weekend with you. It wasn’t long enough time with you, but it never is. We picked up Tom when we got here and all went to the Rountree for supper. Jean is studying for a test tomorrow. I will rest tomorrow and go back to Minnesota Tuesday or Wednesday. It is so cold tonight. So good to be with you.
