Visited this temple this morning. Two jade Buddhas, this one and the other one I sent were brought from Burma. Visited the museum this afternoon. Very nice celedon and lovely bronze. Bronze 4000 years old. We leave for Xian in a short time, all well.

I got this postcard whilst slumming the other day in San Antonio. Let’s go to Mexico this summer. I’m not going to be working except hopefully playing in a band this summer and I got the Mexico itch (oh no!). Lez go! Hey – we can take my car this time… How about an expense -paid musician too?

Marg brought me a gorgeous deep rose wool and a pattern for my est. I have begun the back. I am also vacuuming – it broke down yesterday so I had to spend the morning cleaning it out! I’ve go to go get milk – and mail this.

Vitalis (VI century) – Empress Theodora with her Court
I went to Ravenna to see the mosaics in 1973 and I bought a lot of postcards because when I returned to school I had to write a paper on them. I thought it would be easier with visuals to remind me.
This Mosaic is in the Basilica of San Vitale. It shows Empress Theodora of Byzantium (b. 490 d. 548) and her offerings to Christ (you can see the Three Kings at the bottom of her skirts). Her two sisters are beside her. She was known for her beauty and here her tiara is dripping in jewels.
