J.H. Weissenbruch (1824-1903)

July 1981

Hope you’ve had a great time in Calif. – and get home safely. We are going to airport this AM to meet Caroline who will be here overnight (from IITA). Bill had a good time there – was overwhelmed with hospitality, didn’t get involved in any problems. Nicholas up and quit one dark night – is now in Bodiga with a World Bank family – making a mint, I’m sure. Patrick working up at IH now!

Aert van der Neer (1603-1677)

March 1982

Can you believe that this was painted in 1650? I’m reading Van Gogh’s life so I walked thru cold and rain to the museum today to see some painting of his (not many here) and other things like the “dollhouse”. Wish you were here to do the museums with me now. I’m needlepointing like mad, besides reading, doing some cleaning. It’s still awfully lonesome. Jean said you really look great and entertained her beautifully. She greatly appreciated it. See you soon.

We are lolling at the Hilton here at airport – in the chilly foggy weather – typical. Bill spent yesterday aft at ISNAR meeting and old friends. We leave at 11:30 tonight for warmer weather, I hope. Great to read the Herald Tribune again – and hear BBC news! Also CNN on TV is “homey”.

The Hague, November 1982

I have been watching BBC on TV – the cable has finally been hooked up. The first thing I watched was the Queen opening Parliament – it was glorious in all her jewels and satins, gold coach, Diana and Charles, Margaret Thatcher, et al!! I made tollhouse cookies today, walked to the street market at Stevinstraat this aft in the mist – not too chilly – rather nice, in fact. Hope you are ok.

Mt Rigi, Switzerland

May 2000

We arrived in Switzerland today. Yesterday we took the Eurostar to Paris, then a sleeper train to Zurich, then this morning we took a short train ride to Lucern. That is where we are going to be staying for a few days. After we checked into our hostel we took a boat on Lake Lucern and a train up to Mt Rigi. It is so Beautiful! The mountains are huge and snow topped. We hiked around a bit, then headed back down on a gondola! Well, I’m having a great time in Europe. See you soon.
