This is a beautiful Flemish city as you can see. We had a good time sightseeing (at last it is sunshiny), eating, etc. We stopped in Waterloo yesterday to see and learn about Napoleon’s great defeat. Gruesome, but interesting. Mary (your old nanny) wants to visit you and Tim and Tom – is driving with Elizabeth and her husband in July. She may call you – I’ve sent her letter to Tom. So you are alerted. Remember she’s the one who gave you the chocolate pudding!

This is a postcard from 1964. The Friendship House was originally built in 1897 for the wealthy Morozov family. After traveling in Spain, the architect fashioned it after the Moorish style incorporating features of a building he saw in Salamanca. The facade is covered in sea shells.
The Morozov building is now used to house visiting foreign delegations.

The Surpreme Soviet meets here, we’re told. The building is closed for repairs.
We leave for Paris early tomorrow. Then back to the classroom.

We tried to call you Sun. to see how your party went. We had Mikey and Alicia, Alex and Rosie here for wild rice and strawberries last night. It was a wine-y, late eve. Mikey returns to Mexico today. We four drove up north to Friesland – learned much about dikes, dunes and poulders. Fantastic what these people have done! It is very chilly, tho sunny and very windy as usual. Alex and Rosie leave for a camping holiday in Spain during July. I’m finally washing the curtains. Have a nice trip to Cal.

A cloudy “threatening” day and the light is wonderful. We like better than sunshine. Maybe our best day yet but everything has been Great. We are in a story book village – our Apt built 16th century with modern plumbing. Girls are good travelers. Malia’s advance in French is visible! Both are so helpful to this ancient one.

How is life? I meant to write to you earlier but have been so busy looking after my brood with no nanny and steward!! I have almost finished shopping. We are arriving on the 18th Sept by lunch time. My husband has gone back. This summer he was coming going all the time! Next year I will not allow holidays with business!

We’ve been having a great time. Prague was gorgeous. We came to Vienna today. It seems quite plain by comparison. My legs are going to be 2″ shorter with all the walking.
