Dropped Val and her friend off at camp yesterday. Sarah was nervous but expect she will be ok. Val will have to create a separate identity from her sister (who has been there 5 summers!). Had a good visit with Nicholas – and thanks for all the presents! We are enjoying them (Val wore the Vodka T-shirt to camp). Went on a long hike today and Astra is zonked – ready for bed before supper – expect she will recover by tomorrow!

Minnesota Farm Country

Minnesota was once either distinctly forest or distinctly prairie. Many parts of southern Minnesota were on the border of tall grass prairie and deciduous forest. The early settlers cleared much of the land by harvesting the trees for building materials and firewood. Nature helped also with fires and storms. In this pastoral scene, rich farmland seems to be dotted with patches of deciduous forest which have eluded both the woodsman’s axe and nature’s fires.

I have been having a lot of fun, and it has been really nice. My horses name is Rio-Grande, and she is very stubborn. I have nice counselors and I have gone swimming every day Well I hope it is nice on Saturday.

Remember these Falls? They still look the same as they did when we used to come fishing up here. the family likes to play tennis on a court in the park. I was lazy all day yesterday, up at 5:30 this a.m. Now I’m back in bed relaxing again. Bill called yesterday from Hong Kong where he will be for the weekend.

Rainy and cool here today. Hope all is ok with you. Love, Dede

We came here yesterday to see the sights and join the crowd on the harbor boat tour. It is an interesting city. We have done the waterfront, dinner at Fitgers and tonight we plan to be in Bayfield, Wi. It’s been hot in Branerd but nice here.
