Drove past here today in bright blue skies. Spending time driving around Scotland. Have seen some beautiful scenery and had perfect weather. We are now heading south to the Lake District and home on the 21st. Hope all is OK.

Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota

This channel connects the upper and lower lakes of Minnetonka. Lake Minnetonka located about 15 miles west of Minneapolis has over 300 miles of shore-line. It is noted for its scenic beauty, fishing, sailing and a summer playground. A large amusement part is on the water’s edge at Excelsior, Minnesota.

Apparently the amusement park was there from 1925 to 1973. I never saw it.

The Oriental Hotel, circa 1876

July 1987

Dear

The original part of the hotel still looks like this but they have a modern, lovely hotel around it. It is still one of my favorite places in the world. The flight over was long! 24 hours! With stops in S.F and Tokyo. Saw three movies – The Tin Men, Hoosiers and Burglars on the plane. Burglars was good.

Take care

This should reach you by the time of your birthday! Happy Birthday! Our hotel is lovely! Looks quite different now than in this photo but this is more or less as it was when we first stayed here in the 50’s. Hope all is well and your trip to Boston is fine. I am having a new silk suit made.

Hi

We all met as planned at airport about midnite last nite (24 hour trip – tired). This hotel (the new version) is just gorgeous and comfortable – we are impressed. We had big slabs of papaya for breakfast in the sun along the river. Wish you were here.

The Oriental, Bangkok, Circa 1876

From its earliest origin as a rest house for western adventurers, The Oriental has stood for quality of life that made it an oasis midst the hub-bub that prevails all about. As it was over 100 year ago, so it is today.

Williamsburg, Virginia

April, 1955

Hi!

Ave had a good day of sightseeing! Were at it most of the day in the hot Va. sun. Left coats in the car. The flowers are lovely here – tulips, iris, violets are all out though they say it is in late spring. The reconstructed area is very interesting. Have seen today about half of the buildings open. Tonight we went to a candlelight concert of 18th and 17th century string music in the Governor’s Palace. It was delightful. Ate dinner tonight at the Williamsburg Inn – wonderful food.

THE CAPITOL, 1699-1705

This structure closely identified with the political life of Colonial Virginia, has been rebuilt on original foundations at the earlier of two buildings that stood here during the eighteenth century. Its furnishings and unusual interior painting conform to descriptions in contemporary records.

Greetings from NDjamena (which used to be called Fort Lamy). Arrived here yesterday via Douala, Cameroon. It is hot — 95 degrees or more when we landed. We will be here until Saturday when we fly to Paris for a connection to Abidjan. A long way around but much shorter in time. Hope all is well and will see you soon.
