July 1986
today is Astra’s birthday! She is sleeping while the rest of us play cards and read – it is raining very hard. We all got lots of sun yesterday on Marconi Beach, past this lighthouse (it was too crowded to look at – as are many things including the roads!). My feet are red, of course, and a bit sore!

Three brick lighthouses were built in 1838. They toppled into the sea, and in 1892, three wooden towers were built. These were replaced in 1923, by a single iron tower moved from Chatham. The light shines from a height of 114 feet above the sea and is visible for 17 miles.
