Flood of 1997. On April 13, 1997, the Mississippi River crested at 8.4 feet over flood stage exceeding the June 1993 flood. The flooding of the Red Minnesota, Mississippi, and St Croix Rivers was of historic proportions and damages with the state are expected to exceed one billion dollars.
